From Defiance to Begging: Inside the Shocking Liberal About-Face on Donald Trump
With only three weeks until the CUSMA deadline, Dominic LeBlanc just threw 18 months of anti-Trump talking points into the dumpster to save an imploding trade strategy.
The Eurasia Summit: Talking Past Each Other
While Toronto police were mourning their fallen brother, the political and corporate elite were gathering downtown for the annual Eurasia Group Canada-U.S. Summit, co-sponsored by RBC.
U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra kicked off the summit by acknowledging Constable Pinizzotto’s sacrifice, rightly noting that it exemplifies the blood-bound tactical cooperation between American and Canadian law enforcement. But when Hoekstra sat down for his main address, he echoed an observation he previously made right here on The Elevate Report: Washington and Ottawa are talking completely past each other.
“You really need to be a good listener... What Canada thinks they are saying is not necessarily what America is hearing. And that’s really tough in negotiations. You may be sitting across from each other talking back and forth, but you don’t have a shared understanding.”
The Liberal Party is filled with who I believe to be pawns who genuinely believe that issues like the 49,000 Chinese EVs, illegal CCP police stations, and open-border drug trafficking are just minor details that the opposition are blowing out of proportion. They honestly think we can just glide back into a status-quo trade relationship without addressing continental security. Hardening our borders, clamping down on foreign espionage, and flushing out the IRGC wouldn’t just satisfy the Americans—it would save our own communities. Yet, the Liberals refuse to act until they are forced to by an economic gun to their heads.
Dominic LeBlanc’s Shocking About-Face
This brings us to the absolute highlight of the summit: a stunning, hypocritical pivot from Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc that left every political insider in the room doing a double-take.
After 18 months of the Liberal Party screaming that Donald Trump was a volatile threat to global stability, LeBlanc stood before the audience and completely flipped the script.
LeBlanc told the crowd:
“President Trump ran an election campaign to impose tariffs. He won convincingly and he’s implementing the agenda that he told Americans he would...Canada should not be emotionally vested in how American politicians speak to American voters.”
Let that sink in. The Liberal front bench is now explicitly telling Canadians to stop having an emotional “hissy fit” over Donald Trump’s rhetoric. They are acknowledging that Trump won a massive, convincing mandate and is simply doing exactly what he promised he would do.
Why the sudden, dramatic change in tune? Because the July 1st CUSMA review deadline is three weeks away, and the Carney Liberals have suddenly realized they have zero leverage. Their grand strategy of “defying Washington” and “diversifying our trade to Europe” has borne fruit. They are terrified of an absolute economic wipeout, so they are throwing their old talking points directly into the dumpster to play the role of the mature, accommodating trade partner. It is a cynical, desperate flip-flop from an administration running on pure survival instinct.
The Bottom Line
We are witnessing the systemic unraveling of the establishment narrative. On one side of the city, a brave officer is killed executing a warrant birthed by foreign terrorist operations that Ottawa ignored. On the other side of the city, a senior Liberal minister stands at an elite geopolitical summit, performing a frantic diplomatic about-face to beg for an American trade exemption.
They cannot hide the decay anymore. The system is broken, the security perimeter is compromised, and the bills are coming due all at once.
